What I’ve just learned is that this product is very toxic to dogs.  Only a very small amount can lower your dog’s blood sugar very rapidly.  Within 30 minutes your dog’s blood sugar can drop rapidly a cause insulin shock and hypoglycemia.  If your dog is not treated immediately this product will cause irreversible brain trauma, liver damage and ultimately death.

Symptoms Include:

• Vomiting
• Weakness
• Sleepiness
• Ataxia (uncoordinated movements)
• Depression
• Hypokalemia (decreased potassium)
• Seizures
• Coma
• Liver dysfunction and/or failure

First, call your veterinarian or the emergency vet clinic to advise them that you are on your way.  They will probably have you induce vomiting, follow their instructions.  If you can’t reach your vet, you will need to induce vomiting especially if you live more than 30 minutes away from an emergency vet clinic. To induce vomiting administer 1 teaspoon of peroxide for every 10lbs.  Move the dog around by walking to mix the peroxide into the stomach.  Do not use Ipecac syrup unless instructed by your vet.

I’m sure it goes without saying but keeps all Xylitol and Xylitol products out of the reach of your pets and remember they can be very sneaky and can open cabinets and reach higher than we like to think.

Here’s How to Chuckit!
There’s a learning curve of 10-20 throws.

Find an open area, away from people, animals and buildings.  With the ball in the Chuckit!, grip the handle firmly.

1. Extend your arm back over your shoulder until the ball is behind you.  Then swing it forward in a smooth arc.  Remember to follow through.
2. The Chuckit! will release the ball when you swing it fast enough.

Techniques:

Aim High – the Chuckit! tends to throw the ball downward.  Don’t watch the Chuckit! while you throw.  Instead, look where you want the ball to go.

Pick It Up
Holding the handle of the Chuckit!, place the ball claw over the tennis ball and press down firmly.  The Chuckit! will grab the ball and hold on.
